Support the USPSTF’s Draft Hepatitis B Screening Recommendations
NVHR strongly urges you to submit public comment supporting the United
States Preventive Services Task Force’s (USPSTF) draft hepatitis B
screening recommendations. The USPSTF is recommending a “B” grade
(support) for screening high-risk individuals for hepatitis B, including
those born in countries with 2% or greater prevalence of hepatitis B,
those born in the United States who were not vaccinated against
hepatitis B in infancy and whose parents were born in a country with a
high prevalence of hepatitis B, persons who inject drugs, HIV positive
individuals, men who have sex with men, and household contacts or sexual
partners of those who have hepatitis B infection.
Our colleagues at Hep B United have created an excellent online resource
to help organizations develop and submit public comment. This website
provides background information, sample language, instructions on how
and where to submit comments, and a sign-on letter for those who don’t
have time to write their own comments but want to support the draft.
Comments are due by 5 pm Eastern, Monday, March 10, 2014. Please visit Hep B United’s resource center and
take a few minutes to write comments and/or add your organization’s
name to the sign-on letter. We need a strong showing of support from the
community to ensure that the USPSTF finalizes the draft recommendations
with a “B” grade for testing all individuals at high risk!
